Nice try, Lao Che!

I have been foolish in taking your claims of fascism seriously. Nobody else did... and I mean many tens of millions of nobody elses.

Those ludicrous claims of fascism, Hitler, and "threat to democracy" are a big reason why legacy media no longer has any credibility -- and drove voters to vote MAGA. It was a YUGE backfire. Folks everywhere were laughing at the claim that Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden was a Nazi rally.

They can't insult the voters' intelligence like that and expect to win hearts and votes.

As suggested by the original point of this thread, words from trusted sources have very real effects. Everyone I know in the gay community is very scared. Mrs FredS had a college-age client yesterday who said the campus has been eerie this week - people walking around in silence, her roommates cried on election night. They believe the fascist-hitler-dictator-hater stuff the traditional media have been laying down. I think Wos does too. We shouldn't be casual in dismissing the fears of the left just as they shouldn't be casual in calling the right misogynistic racists. You see, pitting neighbor against neighbor and Catholic against Catholic is good for business. The execs at CNN and Fox will carry on as usual, the real question though is "Will we continue to buy it?"

But the fears of the Left are false. Those people are afraid because they have been lied to.

They have been lied to by a Party and their Media who hoped to win votes by peddling fear.

Trump won by his compelling message of hope and optimism and coming together, with practical policies to fix real problems. And he won by gaining support from every demographic -- most especially Hispanic voters, but also men, women, young, old, urban, rural, highly educated, working class, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Amish, black and white voters. He won 65% of Native American voters -- who were not impressed with those empty "Land Acknowledgement" proclamations that open every Leftist event and rally.

Trump won by doing the work of reuniting our country -- not by any politics of division.
===========================

Identity politics is divisive, by design. Its only purpose is to divide people into identity groups and set them against each other.

And now identity politics is dead. They've called us "bigots" and "racists" and "Nazis" so many times that no one cares anymore.

Democrats are going to have to come up with new ideas and new strategies. Let's hope they go with something that serves the common good.

Off topic, but interesting asides in the news this morning. From Houston Chronicle this morning:

"Leader of Texas Democrats resigns after suffering widespread election losses
After more than a decade, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa announced Friday in a letter that he will step down following another devastating election cycle for Democrats up and down the ballot.
The letter also came after Hinojosa, in conversation with a reporter with The Texas Newsroom, expressed willingness to drop some support for transgender people to appeal to more centrist members of the party."

Also, unrelated, but noticeably different from the norm, there's an article on wild turkey hunting in today's NYT. With pics of dead turkeys and everything. Also in todays NYT cooking column, there's more than just a mention of duck hunting.

Back on topic, the judge and the plaintiff's lawyers are furious with the former mayor, for allegedly hiding away some his personal belongings. Someone mentioned Trump to the mayor in passing, after his hearing, and the mayor reportedly said that he doesn't need Trump, he just needs justice, (to be short). This sort of reminds me of when Willie's daughter quickly took his guitar ("Trigger") and shipped it to him in Hawaii before the IRS raided his home. Reportedly Willie was going to give it away at one point. "When Trigger goes, I'll quit", he said. Anyway ...
The Indians will not bother you now, on account of ... you are touched.

You've fallen for the BS put out by your favorite sources. Trump did not win all the demographics you listed. He improved his share in all - or most, I'm not bothering to check those facts - over what he did last cycle.

And do you really think he ran on a platform of unity? I never heard him knock democrat voters as deplorable trash, but he certainly had very harsh, violent even, words for the democratic party and elected officials. Of course it was all campaign BS that nobody should take serious, but it's easy to see why he scares half the country.

I stand corrected. He did win gains in all demographics that I have seen measured, and record gains in some. But 80% of black voters still voted Democrat. Just not 90+%, as usual.

Yes, Trump did blast particular Democrat leaders. And of course, he condemned some very unpopular Democrat policies.

But overall, he ran a unity campaign. He welcomed Democrat voters and pushed some former Democrat stars (Musk, Tulsi, RFK Jr.) to the front of his campaign. He invited Democrat voters and their key demographic groups to consider him. And many did.

I watched as Trump built the most diverse and inclusive coalition of leaders and voters that America has ever seen. This is historic.

Fred, I agree with you completely, but they aren't going to listen.

We're moving through this Earth in tents, in joyful hope of the resurrection. We aren't citizens of this world. I'm called to obey the earthly magistrate until his laws become incompatible with Christ's law. So we're cool regardless.

There are people hurting that need a hug right now. My daughter used to be scared of monsters. I didn't laugh at her or beat the crap out of her when she thought she saw one. I explained that there weren't any and let her cry it out. That's what I've been doing with my gay customers, particularly a lesbian couple. Not the time to preach. Time to tell them there's nothing to fear and they're safe around me and somebody starts any crap in my presence, I'll defend them.

There are people gloating that need to be told to calm it down a little/lot right now, too. Ive had to tell people to knock off the ku klux rally in the front room, that they disgrace the names their mother gave them saying the crap they're saying about the blacks, jews, Hispanics, and Asians that they think have it too easy in this country and that as lazy bastiges who loaf away their days smoking cigars collecting social security, they're no different than the people they're calling names.

My own personal theory is that the name of Trump manifests demons. A republican with demons hears the name and screeches hate at groups of people he doesnt like. A democrat with demons hears the name and screeches hate at groups of people he doesnt like. Either way, inhuman, disordered hate screeching.

There are so many more reasonable people, though, that are coming together and actually discussing the issues. They're the ones to talk to. They can think. Might make some Christians. I've sure been trying...some of my customers notice how calm I've been about the whole thing and I could explain to them that my Christianity let's me know that even if it isn't alright for my wants or needs, God has me covered and he's in control and we're going to be alright.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear. But trying to convince Del or Wosbald that those that bear the name of Christ should act in a different manner...dude. Shake the dust off your sandals. They're both screeching hate. Fast and pray instead.

Salt and light and sometimes pepper and if that doesn't work a good left hook. We'll be ok.

Your daughter was a child. Every child needs to be told that there are no monsters, and Dad is here to protect them.

Sometimes, we need to remind adults that there are no monsters and that Dad is here to protect them.

I'm going to politely refrain from assuming or asking whether these were Blue devils or Red devils. Just sorry that the bastiges invaded your sanctuary.

There's a lot of wisdom here. I'm taking this.

I live in a deep Blue county, so all I hear are Blue demons.
Thanks for reminding me that Red demons haven't disappeared.

Fascism is incompatible with Liberal Democracy, and as such, is incompatible with the virtue of Patriotism and thus, incompatible with the 4th Commandment (Honor Mom & Pop).

Calmness and self-composure in crisis is good and is, itself, a crucial way to tamp down Fascism.

OTOH, ignoring Fascism is never the solution to Fascism. Cuz when the levee breaks — and break it will — you'll have no place to stay.
