East or Orient is one of the four cardinal directions or points of the compass. It is the opposite direction from west and is the direction from which the Sun rises on the Earth.

Years ago, there was an epic story arc on the old Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. An evil villain had caused the Earth to tip sideways. And to save the world, our duo had to make a hero's journey to find the West Pole.

I am getting my nephew a compass and a "Starting Compass" book for Christmas. He is only 9 but an avid outdoor kid, and he likes to know "Why". I think it will be a big hit. He will then be able to help me with Calculating East.

East is exactly half-way between North and South.
