The OFG's Pocket Knife

Post about everything from carrying a handkerchief to manly skills (sharpening a pocket knife, etc), to product reviews of items that may have slipped inder our radar (ie Grandpa's Pine Tar soap). No threads on anything 'new' unless it hearkens to old-fashioned sensibilities and ideals.

So I had decided, no more knives...but then I saw this on the auction site and I was smitten, it is a Western brand from just up the road in Boulder, Colorado...a Trapper pattern...I got it for cheap, and when it arrived I noticed the pile side scale was lifting and going its own way...little cleaning and a little epoxy and its gooder than new. It is a big knife, 4 3/4 inches closed...But man o man does it feel good in the hand. OK no more knives...for a while...I am gonna try to sell some maybe...you know the ones that I am not smitten with...

I use the Lansky system for pocket knives and smaller fixed blades. Bigger blades I do manually on a stone.

I'm just the opposite. I'll get out the Lansky for fixed blade knives maybe once or twice a year. It's not an enjoyable process for me so I put it off as long as possible. I have a few Chinese diamond honing plates I use for pocket knives and quick touch ups in the kitchen. Use them over the sink with a trickle of water running.

This is a really, really good system! Expensive but worth every penny (I am not affiliated, just a happy customer)

Sure, a Monkey/Bobby (£500) seems high but those models are aimed at professional sharpening business?
