Bloodhound wrote: 31 Jan 2023, 10:53 When Penny and I were in Oregon in October, we had Dungeness Crab at 3 local spots...it was just the meat and they didn't have whole crabs. On our last night in Oregon, we ate at Salty's on the Columbia in Portland...it has become a tradition when in Oregon that we make Salty's for dinner and we have whole Dungeness Crab. Well this time we didn't see it on the menu and the waiter told us that since COVID the crab fishing industry and fishing as a whole is having trouble getting employees and that has caused the prices of sea food to go crazy so Salty's was offering on the menu clusters, and they were using the body meat in their world famous chowder and other dishes. So we had clusters and chowder and it was very very good! Maybe next time we will be able to get whole crabs again...
I think my experience with crab clusters was because of the processing it received, however good seafood restaurant will take pride in what they serve :handgestures-thumbupright:
"Clusters" is what they called the cluster of legs there were 4 clusters to the order.

At a very young age, my mama taught this boy to appreciate the combination of crab and beer.
There's got to be crab and beer in heaven.
Got to be.

I want to visit the Gulf Coast and have somebody show me how to clean and cook and eat blue grabs.

I will need lots of practice.

We pull Dungeness from our literal backyard. Having lived in some of the best seafood regions in the country (New Orleans, Maine) I consider Dungeness to be the pinnacle of seafood. We get fresh salmon right from our local dock here on the island as well - King, Coho, Keta (chum), sockeye, Chinook. Spot prawns and King crab are our other favorites. We get our own Spots (and Coon stripe prawns), but the King shows up at our dock market in season.

And don't get me started on local sushi (best in North America).
