However, I agree that the goal of making Fascism impossible ever again
I've been thinking about "fascism" lately.
In the effort of fascism leaders to take over a country, before the tyranny is established, there is always a respectable political party wing (in spite of its hot rhetoric) and a violent outlaw wing.... a brute squad.
The Russian Social Democratic Labour Party had their Bolsheviks (led by Lenin, who took over the whole party).
Mussolini's National Fascist Party had their Black Shirts.
Hitler's National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazi) had their Brown Shirts.
The pre-Civil Rights Democrat Party had their Ku Klux Klan.
The current Democrat Party have Antifa.
Eventually, the political party takes control. The violent brutes are jailed or killed or pressed into the military government.
A big difference now is in rhetoric. Before WWII, fascist parties were proud to call themselves "fascist." Especially Mussolini, who was first to adopt the ancient Roman "fasces" symbol of a bundle of sticks being stronger together.
Since WWII and the demise of Hitler, it has become common for emerging fascists to label their opponents as "fascist."
(This misdirection is also the reason why Godwin's Law holds: In any online discussion on any topic, inevitably someone will compare his opponents to Hitler, Nazis, or fascists. And automatically looses the argument.)

Arraignment day.
Media breathlessly covering every angle.
Heard there won't be a mug shot. Kind of disappointed. I was gonna put it on a T-shirt.

I have been ignoring much of this.
I know it's historic -- along the lines of Johnson's impeachment trial and Nixon's resignation. But it's also a bunch of political theatre, and a mockery of our justice system. It feels like ignoring the farce is the most honorable thing I can do for my country.

34 felony counts.
They're throwing all the spaghetti at the wall to try to get one to stick.
Asinine.

We are sailing uncharted shallows in the Sea of Asinine.
I remember when Obama was charged with failing to report some major campaign donations, basically what Trump is being "accused" of. Obama was fined $375,000, which was considered a pretty big deal at the time. Media barely covered it.

--> --> Don't let the media's Trump obsession distract you from rising red state fascism [Opinion]
The Money-Quote:
Trump’s indictment is important news. […] News media has a responsibility to inform the public about the potentially criminal, and demonstrably antidemocratic, actions of a man who served as president once and wants to serve again.
Squatting outside Trump Tower isn’t especially informative though. It’s celebrity coverage, implicitly telling viewers that the important thing about Trump is that he’s Trump — a fun, charismatic media figure. It’s treating a crisis of democracy like a reality television show. And it’s treating Trump as if he’s a unique figure of special, even transcendent, interest and importance.
Trump is important. But that importance is less about him as an individual than it is about the authoritarian movement that elevated him, and which he has supercharged. Trump promised to use the power of the state to crush dissent and target marginalized people. The GOP voted for him because that’s exactly what they want from a leader. Now that Trump is a private citizen, the GOP is pressing on with the business of fascism on the state level. That’s a story that needs to be told. But you can’t tell it if your camera is on the tarmac, watching Trump’s plane.
