This morning I accomplished a little thing, but it's a miletone for getting Pop's T back on the road.
What I did accomplish was to bolt the battery ground strap to the frame.
Easy-peasy, right? Well not exactly.
How it came to me was a cable came back from the hogshead to ground the battery, unlike anything I've seen before.
Illustrations show a ground strap bolting on the hole in the frame aft of the battery.
Of course my T doesn't have the hole in the frame and the closest connection is one of the holes where the battery
carrier bolts onto the frame channel and wouldn't you know, that bolt was missing so I had a hole just waiting for
a new bolt with a ground strap. The unfortunate part is that the battery carrier must have bounced around with a battery when Pop drove around because the bolt hole in the battery carrier refused the align up with the hole in the frame. When I did manage to spring it back to accept the new bolt,
of course the bolt was too short!
Now this has become quite a job, as I have to fiddle with this bent over, through a open back door, with everything upside down and sight unseen since it's inside the frame channel and the steel battery carrier apparently has an attitude when it comes to lining up. Add to this my eyeglasses decided to become loose and bail at every opportunity, apparently in order to add to my fun.
Anyway, the negative ground strap is now attached to the fame.
It's a little thing, but a milestone none the less.

The vanguard twin v continues to give me fits.
It's runs fine with no load, but in the water, at full throttle, it stalls. I've already cleaned the high speed jets. Perhaps there's an air leak somewhere, making the mix too lean? I plan to remove the carb in the morning and start over. But I'm running out of time, duck season opener is Saturday morning.

I'm thinking of getting a battery trickle charger for the 6 volt "T" since my old Shumacher is for 12 volt batteries.
I went to WallyWorld's site and saw an interesting one that's in my price range--a NOKO Genius1 for $30 they ship and it'll arrive in two days.
I went to Autozone and the same charger was $35.50 and was in stock locally. So I went back to Wally's site and found the shipping would boost the price to $39.
Next week I'll swing by the Autozone.

Have you checked for restrictions in the fuel supply (plugged filter, kinked hose, dirty screen on the fuel tank outlet)? Also, it could be a restriction on the air side as well.

Today I accomplished another small milestone towards getting pop's T back on the road fpr her 100th birthday.
I delved once more into the conundrum that is the Ford Faithful Oiler, an aftermarket gizmo that takes oil from the hogshead and delivers it directly to the oil gobbling #1 engine bearing.
Following instructions I found on the Model T forum, I cut a piece of 1/8" hardware cloth to fit the lowest part of the trough in the baffle that scoops up oil slung upward by the flywheel and dribbles some to the transmission bands and shoots the rest to the #1 bearing. This bit of screen is to collect any lint from the transmission bands that might clog up the system and starve that all important #1 bearing. It is held in place by both gravity and a magnet, the magnet serves to also collect any metal particles in the motor oil (Model Ts engines have don't have oil filters nor oil pumps.)
The tricky part was getting the transmission door off without mucking up the gaskets and a "filet" which I had fabricated to seal a gap between the gaskets where there is no sheet metal from the baffle to keep oil from leaking.
Anyway, that's what I did.

There is a disturbing element of truth to this--

Today I replaced the oil drain plug with one that has a magnet---it' supposed to snatch metal particles out of the motor oil.
I figure she needs all the help I can give her.

I checked everything. When I told my younger brother what it was doing he said that I only thought I had cleaned the carburetor. "Take the carb off and
really clean it. Soak it for a couple of days if you have to", he said. So I did, and it has been running good. It puffed out white smoke for about the first 30 minutes or so of running, but otherwise it's running good. Not perfect but well enough to get us into the marsh a couple of times this weekend.
It still has a loose throttle, for one thing. I may have already asked this, but does anyone know exactly where the large spring (that I'm pointing at with forceps) is supposed to be attached? It sure is loose.

Another cool stuff find while de-hoarding the house.
From Hot Rod Fuller's top fueler (David Powers Racing 2008-ish).

That is very cool. It's amazing that they have to rebuild the engines between each run. Watching them do that was just as exciting as the run down the next 1320, at least it was to meet.
