UPDATE:
Well we have learned that a knee replacement, while not uncommon, it is a long tough recovery. She is walking for the most part without a cane, still doing PT and daily improves.

Prayers for my wife
I hope this offers a little optimism. Rita had both knees done, eight weeks apart. She looks back and insists it was the best healthcare decision she ever made.
