Boop and I go to a local preserve two or three times a week so we can walk in the woods and she can enjoy a nature poop. I take a pole with me so I can get a few casts in here and there. I've yet to catch anything of note, but I do succeed in scaring a lot of turtles off their logs.

Went to a local park last night. I haven't fished for crappie since we moved to CO, so 10 years or so. A couple Mexican guys - one about 12, the other about 20 - pulled up on bicycles and the younger started fishing. The elder (obviously not a fisherman) told me the younger had been there the day before and caught a carp. The kid said 'It was a crappie!' Anyway, I'd been planning this for a couple days 'cause a cold front was coming. The cold front rolled in early than I expected and the cold plus rain/snow ran me off the lake. But not before I caught three huge black crappie in a span of five minutes. I mean YUGE! I've only ever caught one that was bigger in my life. I released them all and the kid was giving me a curious look. I don't think it's been warm enough for them to be on beds yet, and it's s'posed to be cold and snowy this weekend, but you can bet I'll be back there with a stringer as soon as it warms up next week.

[EDIT] The reason I went fishing here in town is because I've been on an ultralight kick lately. There's a fishing fad going 'round called BFS - Bait Finesse System - where folks are using small bait casting reels on light rods. Spin fishermen have been doing it forever with ultralight spinning gear, but I'm going extra-ultralight. 2lb test line and 1-2g lures. I fished a mountain lake last week and caught a bunch of trout so I know I'm on to something here, but I need to hone my skills with such light gear and I want to drive ten minutes, not an hour, to do it. It's a blast to see a 2lb fish put such a bend in yer rod.

I moved my day job to the mountain cabin a few days ago so I could go fishing after work. Been cold-windy-foggy-rainy for 3 friggin days. 32 and wet snow/rain right now in what will be the warmest part of the day.

Oh well, the water heater took a dump so I've had time to take it and it's closet out. And time to order the new (bigger) stuff from Home Depot. The rotten thing is that I'll have to drive to town in this slippery mess tonight. Still, I have the dogs for company and there's no place I rather be. Well, I'd rather be fishin' but that's it.
