The other day Sweetandsour showed up with his sweet wife and ministered to me. It was some genuine Holy Spirit timing. I'd had some rough days and they showed-up with good conversation, poignant reading materials, a sack of BBQ, and prayer. It was all good medicine and sincerely appreciated.
Thank you all for the prayer support. For real, it means a lot.
So much joy, thanksgiving, and continued concern.
If you had an decent cheese, I'd love to live in Texas.
The good part - Rita moved to in-patient rehab today. I am grateful that she will have focused physical rehab now so she can start getting conditioned-up to walk again.
The bad part - The hospital we were in galactically screwed us. A case worker for an outside rehab hospital showed up saying she was here to work out our transfer details. We had no idea we were getting the boot. After two days of being ignored by case workers at our hospital I finally got one to call me and all she would say is there's nothing she can do. I finally got a doctor to tell me that their in-patient rehab program was declining to admit her because "She is not a suitable candidate'. She was suitable for the last 4 1/2 months, I asked. They dug their heels in and I chose find another rehab hospital to place her since they were adamant about discharging her. Then I got a call from the new rehab group who told me all of their Houston area facilities were declining to accept Rita because the hospital had not only used up all of her medicare hospitalization days, but had also used most of her Lifetime Reserve days. There were not enough left to treat her. We had no idea. Anyway, the new case worker went to work for us and got their rehab hospital an hour from the house to accept us, but only for two weeks. Not nearly enough time to get her home-ready. Any care longer than two weeks and we will have to pay out of pocket, which would devastate my retirement savings.
I believe their actions qualify as Medicare Dumping. I'm having to hire an attorney to see if there is any way to protect Rita's healthcare availability in the future.
No more medicare = not a suitable candidate.
I could use a little focused prayer. It's very hard for me to be objective when I'm this angry and all I can seem to do is unproductively react.
Thanks y'all.
