Just scratched a bucket list item off the list. We attended our first Japanese baseball game. Seibu Lions vs Orrix Buffaloes.

Fast pace, absolutely bananas energy level from the audience. Cute little beer girls doing a brisk business with quarter kegs strapped to their backs.

I am gruntled.

Nice.

I watched quite a few videos by Trevor Bauer - who's a banned-from-MLB-for-life American pitcher - when he played in Japan. Now he's playing in Mexico and I've watched some of those too.

Fred's Scale of Fan Excitement, Buzziness, and Engagement No Matter How the Home Team is Doing:
USA = 2
Mexico = 6
Japan = 10

MLB fans, particularly those of my generation, dislike showmanship in baseball, particularly in the pros but it trickles down to t-ball. A yuge shift is coming as more Japanese and Hispanic players come in, and bring their cultures with them. Of course there's been a bunch of Dominicans and Puerto Ricans in the league forever and their fans tried to act subdued, but they're getting more comfortable sharing their fiery Latin personalities, and the Japanese fan base is growing. We think bat flipping is bad? We aint seen nothin' yet. I'm OK with that.

One of my grandsons spent ~ 9 months in Japan as a foreign exchange student when he was in high school, and he never mentioned or told me anything about any beer girls.

What happens in Japan stays in Japan.

The four young men behind me were on a mission to meet them all and were well on there way to the hangover from hell and almost died laughing when I told them to stick with Yebisu because she was the cutest.

That left me the Asahi gal. I'm smart like that.
