One of the greats.
When I was a teen, we played a drinking game called Hi Bob. We watched an episode of his first series and every time someone on the show said "Hi Bob' you had to drink a beer.

He was a truly funny guy who was great at acting like he didn't know it. Rest in peace

He played a normal, self-conscious Everyman just trying to get through the absurdities of life. And everyone loved him.
Thanks, Bob. You gave us so much joy.
I love watching his guest spots as "Professor Proton" Jeffries on The Big Bang Theory. A strong finish to his long and storied career.

When I was overseas there was very little news og what was going on in this country; to be honest, only the most cursory announcement of the attempt on Mr. Trump's life. But as I was sitting down waiting for my flight out of the Haneda airport, the news gave a few minutes to the passing of Mr. Newhart. That says something to the gentility and genuine humor of the man that he was known and loved literally half way around the world.
I think we also should thank our man Hovannes, the man of a thousand dead threads, for singling out the best clip of old Bob he could have found. Truly funny fellow.
Bob Hope is gone. Bob Newhart has gone. The last American standing is Willie Nelson and I propose a national day of morning upon his passing because then we're genuinely on our own.

Mel Brooks is 98.
Pipeson mentions this, fairly often.

Yeah, but I counted him as dead after History of the World, Part 2.
