Prayers and advice...
Just finished our budget for the year. We calibrate positions by assessing 7 states for comparable size church and position. Our music director is paid WAYYYY above top of range by 40% because just before COVID we hit 3 Sunday and a Wed service and we wanted to pay him for workload. Now we have 1 Sunday and 1 Wed service. The deacons decided we would never cut his salary but he will not get a raise this year so salary range can catch up. I know him well and he is sensitive and will be most unhappy. Our secretary and custodian are also a bit over top of range and we are giving each 2% which they too may be insulted by. Our pastor is in the 90th percentile so we gave him 8.5% and he is still BELOW the top of the range. Prayers for wisdom and brotherly love as we meet with each on Tue eve. Thanks

A great big prayer your way, and you're gonna need it.

Of the churches I have worked at, being paid too much was never my issue. Ha.
In seriousness, though, I will be praying for wisdom for you and those making these decisions, and for servant hearts of those employed by the church.

Praying.
Payment of our church employees is so tough. Where is that line between not enough and excess? They deserve to receive something in between.
I hate to see pastors, secretaries, and maintenance people being paid next to nothing, but a pastor driving a Maserati and living in a mansion isn't the right image either.

Yikes! Tough subject! I'll be praying. If it helps the $$flow at my my small church is: worship leader and jr pastors arn't paid and due to personal finance issues the 2nd in command pastor gets a paycheck and the head pastor gets paid with what ever is left in the offering plate?
And last I knew the $flow also goes 1. Building and grounds, 2.ministry's 3. Last is the staff. (The head pastor one time never got paid for 3 months)
