Don Juans are blooming; and in the background against the fence, the Peggy Martins are blooming as well. The fig tree can be seen also, I'm hoping for a good crop of figs this summer.

Is that an Acme anvil?

I'll try to locate any stamp or printing somewhere on it. I don't know how old it is, it's my FIL's, and it came from an old Texaco refinery here that dates back to the early 1900s'.

I thought these were jalapeño variations, but they don’t look or taste like them. They’re marketed as “salsa peppers” and man, do they grow fast. Three weeks ago these plants were about 4” tall. Now the peppers alone are over 7” long. I’m curious to see how prolific they are. This young plant already has three other littles coming out.

The grower’s web site says they should be between 2k and 4k Scoville. Jalapeños are supposed to be 2k to 10k. I’ve only tried the one, but these are a little too hot for me to eat raw and enjoy. Supposedly they mellow slightly and sweeten a little if allowed to ripen to red. I’ll let you know when that happens. As they are, I think they’ll be good to cook with and I hope to pickle a few.
