The stupid pipeline has been on my property for weeks. I hate that it runs through my place.

Pipeline safety... I spent a summer working for a water authority. The office called us one day to have us drive over and shut off a tap because a homeowner had cut their service line. We were warned the caller was quite enraged.
We arrived at the residence and found a rented mini excavator over a partially dug trench filled with water. The portly gentleman was on the porch and made as much haste as he could getting down to us. He started yelling before he was close enough to understand what he was saying.
I was at the curb shutting off the valve and the older fella I was with met Mr. Pissed by the newly dug pond.
My partner, Bud stood and listened attentively as the pond digger cussed us up and down and said we were responsible for this, he's suing, his attorney was on the way, blah blah blah. After he stopped to catch his breath for a moment Bud asked if he had called to have the underground lines marked. He said, " I was just about to get to that! I called and they came out to mark the lines yesterday! They marked them way over there!" As he pointed to a broken blue line running through the yard 75 feet away.
Bud looked at the lines and turned back. He said "yup, yeah, uh huh. Well you can say what you want about us, but your story doesn't make sense because we're the two guys who come out to mark the lines for you and we weren't here yesterday. On top of that, that blue paint isn't the same color we use." The man shut right up and realized his plan had failed. Bud explained that the line between the meter pit and his house was his responsibility and we would be back to turn the water back on when he had the pipe fixed. Bud wished him a good day and we drove off.

Not as good as the college kids who roasted a pig in ground for summer school cooking class and melted the natural gas pipeline on campus.
Still, a guy who can rent an excavator should be able to see that his trench is running right between the meter box and his house.

You would think he could have figured it out, but as George Carlin put it, "Think about how stupid the average human being is. Half of them are stupider than that." If you have a major credit card, they'll rent you the machine and they'll give anyone a major credit card.Del wrote: 08 Jan 2023, 11:02That's a pretty good story there.joegoat wrote: 07 Jan 2023, 08:52 Pipeline safety...
