Baseball Gloves

Wilson? Nokona? Rawlins? Mizuno? JC Higgins?
I've only had two new baseball gloves in my whole life, a Montgomery Wards (from when I was but a tyke), and a Rawlings I bought when I helped coach little league.
Since baseball gloves are non-vegan and last a long time, they will surely be regarded as OFG paraphernalia before too long.
What's your baseball glove story?

Rawlings, Wilson, and Mizuno, are what I immediately remember. My last gloves were for softball, and I loaned one out to my sister in law for either her or a coed teammate, and never got it back. But I still have my Little League glove, and catcher's mitt.

I still have my first glove - a youth-size Rawlings Brooks Robinson autograph model. Man, I played a lot of really bad baseball with that thing. My current mit is also a Rawlings. I bought a nice one with ambitions of blissfully playing catch with grandsons for hours on end. Not one kid had any interest in baseball growing up and the mit sits only slightly broken-in on a shelf in the hall closet.

I've owned one baseball glove in my 61 years. A Rawlings Mickey Mantle model. Got it when I was around 8 years old. That was 53 years ago! It's a beautiful golden color throughout, with no drying around the edges like many gloves that age. Perhaps because it was my only glove ever so it's soaked up a lot of sweat and oil.

There's another glove around here that belongs to my wife. It's a softball glove that she used for a coed league in college.

I have on old antique Wilson A2970 glove from, I believe, the 1950's that looks exactly like the one pictured beloww. It's actually pretty fun to play pitch and catch with. Gloves were pretty small back then so you're kinda forced to use two hands like you should do anyways. I'm not sure I'd want to catch a 90 mph fastball with it though. When I has a kid I had a Mizuno mitt that was way too big for me. I think my dad got for me from a lost and found. It was complete with some other kid's first name written on it in blue ink. I wish I could remember the kid's name. I remember it started with an 'M'. In hindsight, I think it was a softball glove and the name was one of those names that could have been a boy or girl. I didn't know any better and we were poor and I was just glad to have a glove. I don't know what ever happened to it.

The major sports manufacturers all have vegan gloves out now. Nothing like the smell of plastic to remind you of baseball.

The catcher's mitt is a Cooper. I still haven't located my Little League glove, I hope I still have it.

Nokona.

They were run-of-the-mill when I was a kid.

But the boys' first adult sized gloves I bought were Nokona and I had to have one as well to throw with them.

I also still have my Spalding catcher's MItt and my first Dixie Youth glove which was a Hutch brand. Both still in playing condition.
