Reverse image search reveals it's one of those 'Nazca Line' type engravings. But it's in Chili rather than Peru.
What in blue blazes is it doing on the pope?

Is there an approximate date or age on this figure? Is it pre-Columbian?
A little sleuthing seems to point to this being a stole he wore during an open air mass in Chili in 2018. This was around the time he apologized to victims of clergy abuse in that country.
Do you think Biff - as if your opinion on the Popes vestments counts for anything - that the Chilean geoglyph is inappropriate? To a broader point, do you think it's permissible for various cultures to depict the Christ in ways that are familiar to them. As I recall, you don't lean towards Christ as a comforter so seeing a familiar and comforting image may not appeal to you as much as it does to others, but I presume that's what informed the Popes choice of garb on that occasion.
[EDIT] FTR, I have no idea of Chilean Christians use this image as a symbol of Christ now, or in their past. Just a guess on my part.

I don't really care what the Pope puts on his robes. Art is art. But I thought it a bit odd as I didn't think the geoglyph has anything to do with Christianity.
As far as Christ being a comforter, why would you say that? I'm not Roman in my dogma, and depending on how you define 'comforter' I would unashamedly say that Christ is the 'God of all comfort'. 2 Cor 1:3ff

I see you as a fire & brimstone guy. I recall (and my recollection can certainly be wrong) you writing about the recent pandemic and seeing God's punishment on a world gone haywire with nary a trace of His grace or comfort to be seen.
Pardon me if I got that wrong. It's too soon to be arguing about this stuff.
